The only Moomin Museum in the world will be opening in Tampere next spring, and on the moving journey, the museum will bring a glimpse of the Moominland Midwinter to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The Pop-up Moomin Museum exhibition presents the characters from Moominvalley, from Fillyjonk to Moomintroll, on an adventure through the Midwinter sceneries. The exhibition is open until September 30th 2016 and it is free of charge.
The Pop-up Moomin Museum exhibition displays digigraphic drafts from Tove Jansson’s original illustrations of the book Moominsummer Madness. The exhibition is open from Sunday to Friday at 5–23 and Saturdays at 5–20.30.
The new home for the Moomin Museum will be in Tampere Hall, Scandinavia’s largest congress and concert centre. The museum will be opened in the new premises on May 9th 2017 and it will be based on Tove Jansson’s original works and illustrations of the Moomin books. ln November 2016, a Moomin Museum reading library will be opening under the same roof, offering Moomin books in various languages to be studied. Also a shop with Moomin products will open its doors at the same time. An exhibition called Making of the Moomin Museum will be open at the Tampere Hall’s Winter Garden from November 2016 until the Moomin Museum opens.
Tove Jansson donated the unique collection of over 2 000 drawings and paintings to the Tampere Art Museum in 1986. Jansson’s works have been admired now for three decades in Tampere, in Moominvalley, which will close its doors on October 30th 2016.
The Pop-up Moomin Museum is produced by the Tampere Art Museum and the Moomin Museum in cooperation with Tampere Hall and Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea.
